Logistics and medical transport

The pilot is far away. The image must tell the truth.

In drone transport the pilot sits in an operations centre and supervises several flights at once. When landing in a city they decide about metres, so they must know how old the image is.

Illustrative case study

Samples between two buildings

This is not a customer and not a flight that happened. It is a description of how this area would read if the image carried its age.

A city, a roof and a yard, an illustration

The pilot is in a centre, the drone tens of kilometres away. The approach to the pad is where age decides about metres. A car in the street moves before an old frame arrives.

In the example Direct suggests slowing when freshness drops. The landing does not rest on a frozen image of the yard.

A second shipment flies the same day. Every flight has its own panel. The pack is attached to the shipment, not to the day.

Approach

Slow down if freshness drops.

The pad

Valid only.

Hand-over

The record goes with the shipment.

AKIZU does not carry samples. It supplies image age to the operator that does.

Image age through the example

The chart requires JavaScript.

The chart is a simulation. Move the slowdown and see when the example stops being under the 50 ms target. The target is not a measured result.

Deployment schematic

Where everything stands and how the image travels

The schematic is not to scale and is not a design for a specific site. It shows where the drone is, which two networks carry the frame and where the decision is made.

Concrete case

Minute by minute

The same illustrative case as above, written out in time. The times are an example. It is not a record of a flight that happened.

Use options

Everything it can be used for in this area

Each row is a separate use. The Parts column says which AKIZU parts it would involve. Status N is a design, C is a target, U is unknown.

01

The problem today

01

The pilot is tens of kilometres away

The image travels over the mobile network and the internet. Delay changes and the pilot cannot see it.

02

The landing pad is in the city

Signal and cells change between buildings. Landing is exactly where one network is weakest.

03

Customers want to know what happened

After a delay or an aborted flight you need to show what the image was and which commands the pilot gave.

04

Several flights in one centre

The pilot must not get the age from a flight other than the one they control.

Without AKIZU and with AKIZU

The same situation, different information on the screen. Proposed behaviour, to be verified in a pilot.

SituationWithout AKIZUWith AKIZU
The image is lateThe image looks live; the pilot does not know how old it is.Frame age is on the screen and the state changes to Reduced freshness. N
Several drones, one teamThe operator does not know which image is current.Every drone has its own age and state. An old image is not treated as confirmation. N
The pilot is in a centre far from the droneLatency changes and the pilot cannot see it.The deadline guard warns when a command arrives late. N
One network failsThe image freezes or breaks up.The frame arrives over the second network; the switch is logged. N

02

How it would work

  1. Flight planPlatform shows the route and the segments where weaker coverage is likely.
  2. TransitBrain sends the image over two networks and measures the age of every frame.
  3. ApproachWith reduced freshness Direct warns the pilot and suggests slowing down.
  4. Hand-overPlatform stores the evidence pack with the shipment.
  5. Another flightEvery drone has its own panel. States are not mixed.

The flow is illustrative. AKIZU is in development.

03

Mission scenario

How many metres further the drone is than the image shows. Pick a scenario or set the speed and image age.

The interactive calculation requires JavaScript.

Scenario speeds are examples. 87.4 ms is the p99 measured internally over WiFi with a phone as transmitter, not on a drone.

05

Who works with it

01

Pilot in the centre

Sees image age on every approach and gets a warning in time.

02

Transport dispatcher

Has an overview of all flights and their state.

03

Customer

Gets the flight record for a claim or audit.

What we will measure in the pilot

  • Time in Valid≥ 95 % C
  • Flights with a complete evidence pack100 % C

06

What you get after every flight

  • Frame age p99 during approach and landing
  • Time in Valid for the whole flight
  • Network switches near the landing pad
  • Evidence pack attached to the shipment

Context

Flights controlled from another country already run

In Belgium, since August 2025, drones have carried samples between two hospital sites, with flights operated from the United Kingdom.

Questions about this area

FAQ →

Which networks will AKIZU use?

LTE and 5G. The Brain Duo concept sends every frame through two operators at once. The 3GPP standard expects the network to recognise a drone in the air, so we plan AKIZU SIM cards with an aerial profile at the operator.

Does AKIZU replace a BVLOS authorisation?

No. BVLOS flights need an authorisation in the Specific category based on a SORA 2.5 risk assessment. AKIZU Platform is meant to give the operator an image-age record as evidence for that assessment.

What happens when the network fails?

The station does not show an old frame as current. When the age exceeds the deadline it switches to a neutral screen and shows the reason. We measured the switch internally within 2.72 ms.

12

What we do not do in this area

Not a logistics company

AKIZU does not carry samples. It supplies image age to the operator that does.

Not a U-space service

Airspace rules are for the state. We supply numbers about the image.

Not shipment insurance

The record helps with a claim. It is not an insurance contract.

A pilot in this area

The pilot is far away. The image must tell the truth.

We are looking for first partners. The application is pre-filled for this area.

In more detail

Before a meeting on carriage

Age decides on the approach. We do not carry the load.

Bring the pad and how far the pilot is from it. A car in the street moves before an old frame arrives.

A landing should not rest on a frozen yard. Slowing when freshness drops is a design, not a measured autopilot.

Bring to the meeting

  • The pilot's distance.
  • What is on the pad.
  • How many flights go in one day.

This is not

  • Carriage as our service.
  • Permission to land.
  • Cargo insurance.
