Public safety

The dispatcher must know they see the present.

A first-responder drone reaches the scene before the patrol. Dispatch decisions rest on the image, and it can be older than it looks.

Illustrative case study

A station, an alarm, three kilometres

This is not a customer and not a flight that happened. It is a description of how this area would read if the image carried its age.

A city, a station roof, an illustration

The dispatcher gets an alarm at 02:14. The patrol is twelve minutes away. A drone from the roof can be at the incident sooner, but only if the image the dispatcher sees says how old it is.

Today a video looks live even when it has frozen. In the example Brain sends the frame over two operators. Direct shows the age. When age passes the target, the screen does not keep the last frame of the street. It shows a neutral screen with the reason.

The spare at the station stays on the ground while the first drone flies. The record says which one was airborne. After the response the pack goes with the incident, not into a shared folder without time.

Alarm

Dispatch launches the drone. There is no age until the first valid frame.

On scene

The decision rests only on Valid.

One network fails

The frame goes via the other. The switch is logged.

AKIZU does not send the patrol and does not decide on the response. It shows whether the image is valid.

Image age through the example

The chart requires JavaScript.

The chart is a simulation. Move the slowdown and see when the example stops being under the 50 ms target. The target is not a measured result.

Deployment schematic

Where everything stands and how the image travels

The schematic is not to scale and is not a design for a specific site. It shows where the drone is, which two networks carry the frame and where the decision is made.

Numbers in the schematic

  1. 1The drone launches from the station roof. The spare stays on the ground.
  2. 2At incident X the drone arrives before the patrol.
  3. 3The frame goes over two networks. Losing one is logged.
  4. 4Platform holds the flight, the record and the pack for the incident.
  5. 5The dispatcher in Direct sees the age. Over the target they see a neutral screen.
  6. 6The pack goes with the incident, not into a shared folder.

Symbols in the schematic

  • BStation or launch point
  • DDrone with AKIZU Brain
  • S1 · S2Two mobile networks at once
  • PAKIZU Platform: fleet and pack
  • OAKIZU Direct: operator and image state

Red and blue beacons: police, state, the military in training. Orange: everyone else. The blink is only on screen. Schematic, design. The list beside it explains the codes in the drawing. The beacon is a payload from another maker, not an AKIZU product.

Concrete case

Minute by minute

The same illustrative case as above, written out in time. The times are an example. It is not a record of a flight that happened.

  1. 02:14Alarm. The patrol is twelve minutes away.
  2. 02:15Dispatch launches the drone from the roof. The spare stays.
  3. 02:16First valid frame. Age is on the screen.
  4. 02:18Drone at the incident. Dispatch describes the scene to the patrol from a valid image.
  5. 02:19One network drops. The frame goes via the other. The switch is logged.
  6. 02:26Patrol on scene. The drone returns. The pack is closed for the incident.

Use options

Everything it can be used for in this area

Each row is a separate use. The Parts column says which AKIZU parts it would involve. Status N is a design, C is a target, U is unknown.

01

The problem today

01

The image does not say how old it is

A frozen or delayed frame looks just like a live one. The dispatcher has no way to tell.

02

The city overloads the network

At a larger incident, many phones share one cell. One network is not enough.

03

No record afterwards

Later it is hard to prove what the dispatcher saw at a given moment and how old that image was.

04

Several drones on one incident

When two drones fly, the dispatcher needs the age of each, not one shared impression.

Without AKIZU and with AKIZU

The same situation, different information on the screen. Proposed behaviour, to be verified in a pilot.

02

How it would work

  1. AlertDispatch launches the drone from the station roof.
  2. TransitBrain sends the image over two networks. Direct shows the age of every frame.
  3. On sceneWhen age passes the deadline, Direct shows a neutral screen with the reason, not a frozen image.
  4. After the incidentPlatform stores the flight evidence pack.
  5. SpareThe second drone at the station takes over if the first one's battery drops. The record says which was airborne.

The flow is illustrative. AKIZU is in development.

03

Mission scenario

How many metres further the drone is than the image shows. Pick a scenario or set the speed and image age.

The interactive calculation requires JavaScript.

Scenario speeds are examples. 87.4 ms is the p99 measured internally over WiFi with a phone as transmitter, not on a drone.

05

Who works with it

01

Dispatcher

Sees image age and state on one screen and knows when not to trust the image.

02

DFR pilot

Gets a warning with reduced freshness and a clear neutral screen in an outage.

03

Operations lead

Has a record after every response for review and the authority.

What we will measure in the pilot

  • Frame age p99 during transit≤ 50 ms C
  • Time in Valid≥ 95 % C
  • Commands executed past deadline0 C

06

What you get after every flight

  • Image state Valid, Reduced freshness or Unavailable for the whole flight
  • Frame age p50 and p99 and time in Valid
  • Network switches and their duration
  • List of commands with the number of the frame the dispatcher saw
  • Which drone was airborne in which minute

Context

Drone security is an EU priority

In February 2026 the European Commission published an action plan on drone and counter-drone security.

Source: European Commission

Latency has a numeric limit

The 3GPP standard allows 140 ms for video when controlling beyond line of sight. The AKIZU LET-1 target is 50 ms.

Questions about this area

FAQ →

What happens when the network fails?

The station does not show an old frame as current. When the age exceeds the deadline it switches to a neutral screen and shows the reason. We measured the switch internally within 2.72 ms.

Which networks will AKIZU use?

LTE and 5G. The Brain Duo concept sends every frame through two operators at once. The 3GPP standard expects the network to recognise a drone in the air, so we plan AKIZU SIM cards with an aerial profile at the operator.

Does AKIZU replace a BVLOS authorisation?

No. BVLOS flights need an authorisation in the Specific category based on a SORA 2.5 risk assessment. AKIZU Platform is meant to give the operator an image-age record as evidence for that assessment.

09

What the operator sees

The three image states in this area. Proposed behaviour, to be verified in a pilot.

Valid

The dispatcher sees the frame age and can rely on the image.

Reduced freshness

The image is still coming, but the deadline is close. The dispatcher knows to be careful.

Unavailable

A neutral screen with the reason. The last frame of the incident does not stay on screen.

10

How the fleet is laid out

Illustrative layout. Drone and station counts are an example, not an offer.

01

Response drone

Station roof

It is at the incident before the patrol. Its image must have an age.

02

Spare at the station

The same station

While the first flies, the second is ready. The record shows which one is airborne.

03

11

How a response runs

Times are an example. They show when image age decides.

  1. 0:00AlarmDispatch launches the drone.
  2. 0:40TransitImage age is on the panel. If one network fails, the frame goes via the other.
  3. 2:00On sceneThe decision rests only on Valid.
  4. afterRecordThe pack goes with the incident.

12

What we do not do in this area

Not a replacement for the patrol

AKIZU does not send people to the scene and does not decide on the response.

Not the city camera system

We do not supply a city CCTV system. We supply image age from the drone.

Not a DFR authorisation

A first-response drone programme is authorised by the authority and the service, not by the supplier.

A pilot in this area

The dispatcher must know they see the present.

We are looking for first partners. The application is pre-filled for this area.

In more detail

Before a meeting on public safety

The patrol stays. We deal with whether the image the dispatcher sees is valid.

Bring the time a patrol takes today, and the place a drone would launch from. Without that we cannot say whether age decides at all.

We do not decide on a response. We can say what the neutral screen would look like when the image misses the target.

Bring to the meeting

  • Where the drone launches.
  • Who decides today, and from which image.
  • What happens when one network fails.

This is not

  • An order to respond.
  • A replacement for the patrol.
  • A legal opinion.
