AKIZU Direct
An operator cockpit where time is visible
Direct only shows an image with a known age. When it cannot guarantee it, it shows a neutral screen with the reason instead of a frozen frame. Every command carries the number of the frame the operator just saw, so the drone knows how old the image behind the command was.
StatusConcept and prototype

Overview
Who it is for
Operators and dispatchers who fly a drone remotely and need to know whether they see the present or the past.
What it solves
A frozen frame that looks live. Direct always shows the image state and never presents an old image as current.
Versions
Direct Desktop in the browser and Direct Cockpit with a curved panel and seat.
Direct Cockpit
A cockpit at a distance.
The seated cockpit with a curved panel is a visualisation and concept today. The browser receiver already runs as a prototype and puts the frame on the GPU in 0.3 ms.
Three image states
The operator always knows what they see.
A guard on every panel refresh checks the age and integrity of each frame. When the age exceeds the deadline, the panel switches to a neutral screen and states the reason.
Frame age is below the deadline. The operator sees the present.
The image is verified but ageing. The cockpit recommends more careful flight.
Age cannot be guaranteed. A neutral screen with the reason instead of a frozen frame.
Interface preview, values are examples.
Try the guard
Move the frame age and the deadline.
Command loop
A command knows which frame it is based on.
The drone knows the exposure time of the frame it produced. When the command "based on frame 4812" arrives, it computes the full loop age on its own clock. A command past its deadline is not executed and the drone holds position.
VERA design. Frame number is an example.
Age in metres
At 20 m/s, 50 ms is one metre.
With an image 300 ms old, the drone is six metres further than the operator thinks. Direct can therefore draw an uncertainty frame around the drone based on speed and image age.

To verify before production
- Independent optical measurement of image age (planned Q4 2026)
- Cockpit ergonomics with operators
- 480 Hz panel in real operation

Z measurements are internal and not yet independently verified optically. 64.6 ms was measured over WiFi with a phone as a temporary transmitter. The cockpit in the images is a visualisation, not a manufactured product.
In more detail
The cockpit does not know for the pilot
Direct shows age and state. It does not decide on a response.
A decision rests only on Valid. A frozen scene that looks like live video should not be used.
The neutral screen is intentional. It is not a player fault. The reason should be on the screen, not in silence.
A command should carry the frame number. How many commands rested on an old image should go into the debrief, not into a feeling about the flight.
Bring to the meeting
- Age.
- State.
- The frame number on a command.
This is not
- An autopilot.
- A legal decision.
- Replacing the person in the cockpit.
