Search and rescue

An empty frame is not an empty sector.

In a search, what matters is whether the coordinator sees the sector now. An old frame of an empty field can hide a person who arrived since, or show them where they no longer are.

Illustrative case study

A valley, three sectors

This is not a customer and not a flight that happened. It is a description of how this area would read if the image carried its age.

A river valley, an illustration

The coordinator splits the valley into sectors. Two drones search, the third goes to the battery. An empty frame of a field is not proof that nobody is there.

A sector is proposed for closure only in Valid. While a drone charges, the map shows a gap, not an empty sector.

A find carries the exposure time. After the search the commander sees which sectors were seen and when. AKIZU does not end the search.

Search

Closure only on a valid image.

Rotation

The gap is visible in the record.

A find

Exposure time, not the time the file was opened.

AKIZU does not look for people and does not call rescue.

Image age through the example

The chart requires JavaScript.

The chart is a simulation. Move the slowdown and see when the example stops being under the 50 ms target. The target is not a measured result.

Deployment schematic

Where everything stands and how the image travels

The schematic is not to scale and is not a design for a specific site. It shows where the drone is, which two networks carry the frame and where the decision is made.

Schematic, not to scale. A design, not a deployment plan. N

Numbers in the schematic

  1. 1The coordinator launches from a road by the valley.
  2. 2Sector B is a weak cell. There may be a gap there.
  3. 3Both networks for each drone.
  4. 4Platform draws the sectors seen in Valid.
  5. 5Direct shows a sector over the target as unchecked.
  6. 6Find N carries its exposure time.

Symbols in the schematic

  • BStation or launch point
  • DDrone with AKIZU Brain
  • S1 · S2Two mobile networks at once
  • PAKIZU Platform: fleet and pack
  • OAKIZU Direct: operator and image state

Red and blue beacons: police, state, the military in training. Orange: everyone else. The blink is only on screen. Schematic, design. The list beside it explains the codes in the drawing. The beacon is a payload from another maker, not an AKIZU product.

Concrete case

Minute by minute

The same illustrative case as above, written out in time. The times are an example. It is not a record of a flight that happened.

  1. 15:00Report. The valley is split into sectors A, B and C.
  2. 15:20Two drones search A and B. The third waits for a battery.
  3. 15:48Sector B over the target. It is not marked seen.
  4. 16:05Rotation. The map shows a gap, not an empty sector.
  5. 16:22A find in sector C with its exposure time.
  6. 16:30The coordinator decides what happens next. AKIZU closes nothing.

Use options

Everything it can be used for in this area

Each row is a separate use. The Parts column says which AKIZU parts it would involve. Status N is a design, C is a target, U is unknown.

01

The problem today

01

Sectors overlap in time

One drone lands to charge and a gap appears in the record that nobody sees.

02

A valley has a weak network

One cell on the slope is not enough and the image freezes without warning.

03

The coordinator assembles several images

Without age they do not know which sector is still open.

04

After the search people ask what was covered

Without a record of image state it is hard to say which sectors were actually seen.

Without AKIZU and with AKIZU

The same situation, different information on the screen. Proposed behaviour, to be verified in a pilot.

SituationWithout AKIZUWith AKIZU
The image is lateThe image looks live; the pilot does not know how old it is.Frame age is on the screen and the state changes to Reduced freshness. N
Several drones, one teamThe operator does not know which image is current.Every drone has its own age and state. An old image is not treated as confirmation. N
Link outageThe last frame stays on screen and looks valid.A neutral screen with the reason, not a frozen image. N

02

How it would work

  1. DivisionThe coordinator splits the ground into sectors and assigns drones.
  2. SearchBrain sends the image over two networks. Direct shows the age of the sector frame.
  3. Closing a sectorA sector is marked searched only in the Valid state.
  4. RotationWhile a drone charges, the record shows the sector is not covered.
  5. A findThe find frame carries the exposure time, not the time someone opened it.
  6. ReviewPlatform stores which sectors were valid and when.

The flow is illustrative. AKIZU is in development.

03

Mission scenario

How many metres further the drone is than the image shows. Pick a scenario or set the speed and image age.

The interactive calculation requires JavaScript.

Scenario speeds are examples. 87.4 ms is the p99 measured internally over WiFi with a phone as transmitter, not on a drone.

05

Who works with it

01

Search coordinator

Sees which sectors are valid and which stay open.

02

Pilot

Is warned when the sector image stops being valid.

03

Analyst

Gets the search record without guesses about freshness.

What we will measure in the pilot

  • Sectors closed on an invalid image0 C
  • Time in Valid in a sector≥ 95 % C
  • Gaps in the recordvisible N

06

What you get after every flight

  • A sector map with image state
  • Time in Valid for every sector
  • Gaps during drone rotation
  • Find frames with exposure time
  • Network switches in the valley
  • A record for the search commander

Context

Beyond-line-of-sight flights need an assessment

EASA introduced SORA 2.5 in September 2025. A search operation needs its own authorisation.

Two networks when one cell is not enough

The Brain Duo aim is to send every frame over two operators. It will be checked in a pilot; it is not a result measured on a drone.

Questions about this area

FAQ →

Which networks will AKIZU use?

LTE and 5G. The Brain Duo concept sends every frame through two operators at once. The 3GPP standard expects the network to recognise a drone in the air, so we plan AKIZU SIM cards with an aerial profile at the operator.

What happens when the network fails?

The station does not show an old frame as current. When the age exceeds the deadline it switches to a neutral screen and shows the reason. We measured the switch internally within 2.72 ms.

Where will data be stored?

The target is data centres in the European Union. The customer sets the retention period for records and video.

Does AKIZU close a sector by itself?

No. It proposes a mark only when the image is Valid. The coordinator confirms the closure.

Does it work with both networks down?

No. A radio backup is not yet part of the design. When both networks fail, the operator sees a neutral screen.

09

What the operator sees

The three image states in this area. Proposed behaviour, to be verified in a pilot.

Valid

The sector can be proposed for closure.

Reduced freshness

The sector stays open.

Unavailable

The map shows a gap, not an empty field.

How a response runs

  2. flightSearchClosure only when Valid.
  3. rotationChargingThe gap is visible.
  4. endRecordWhat was seen and when.

12

What we do not do in this area

Not a search team

AKIZU does not look for people and does not call rescue.

Not a terrain map

We do not supply photogrammetry. We supply the age of the sector image.

Not the decision to end the search

The commander does that. We show which sectors had a valid image.

A pilot in this area

An empty frame is not an empty sector.

We are looking for first partners. The application is pre-filled for this area.

In more detail

Before a meeting on a search

An empty frame is not proof that nobody is there.

A sector is proposed for closure only in Valid. While a drone charges, the map should show a gap.

We do not end a search. We do not find a person. We can say whether the sector image is valid.

Bring to the meeting

  • How you split sectors today.
  • Who closes a sector.
  • What you do while a drone charges.

This is not

  • An order to end the search.
  • Identifying a person.
  • Calling rescue.
