6G

6G at a glance.

The next generation of mobile networks has a framework from the ITU and a timetable from 3GPP. What it could bring drones and what even 6G will not solve.

01

6G timeline

Dates per the ITU and 3GPP. Commercial networks around 2030 are an expectation, not a commitment.

02

Six IMT-2030 scenarios

ITU-R M.2160 from November 2023 describes six scenarios. For each we note what it could mean for drones. That is our estimate.

ICImmersive communication

Image and spatial data for a remote operator.

HRLLCHyper reliable and low-latency communication

Commands and image with a firmer upper bound on delay.

MCMassive communication

Many sensors and drones in one area.

UCUbiquitous connectivity

Coverage outside cities, including via non-terrestrial networks.

AIACAI and communication

A network that anticipates load along the flight route.

ISACIntegrated sensing and communication

A network that sees aircraft and could help with avoidance.

O The effect on drones is our estimate.

03

How 3GPP does it

01Release 20

6G studies. TSG SA approved TR 22.870 with use cases and requirements; TSG RAN was due to approve TR 38.914 in June 2026.

02Release 21

The first 6G specifications. Stage 1 in March 2027, Stage 2 in June 2028, Stage 3 in December 2028, ASN.1 and OpenAPI in March 2029.

03ITU

IMT-2030 technology proposals in early 2029, full specifications by mid-2030 at the latest.

What 6G means for AKIZU

What 6G means for AKIZU

  • VERA runs on today's 4G and 5G networks. We are not waiting for 6G.
  • Lower, firmer latency would cut image age. The time contract stays the same.
  • Network sensing could one day add to aircraft avoidance.

6G will not solve

  • Even 6G will not guarantee every frame. An outage must be shown, not hidden.
  • 6G dates are not AKIZU dates.

We will show the system live or measure the image age on your drone.
